Kate McCarthyTop of Page

Kate McCarthy is the mother of two Inspire students, class of 2016 and class of 2018.  She holds a BA from Colgate University, an MTS from Harvard Divinity School and a PhD from the Graduate Theological Union.  Kate has been a professor at Chico State for over 20 years and now chairs the Department of Comparative Religion and Humanities. Her research interest in religious diversity and interreligious relations is expressed locally in her work with the Chico Area Interfaith Council and other local programs to improve religious literacy and understanding. She is an active volunteer with the Torres Community Shelter and enjoys travel, dog walks in Bidwell Park, and the comfort of knowing that teenagers will save the world.

David is the father of three Inspire students (Kaitlyn, Joy and Audrey) and the host father of 3 (and counting) foreign exchange Inspire students. David has been at Chico State since 2002.  First as a Masters student, then as a staff member in the Information Security Office, and now as a lecturer in the Computer Science department.  David has served on the Inspire Board since Fall 2016.

Kam Bull is the mother of Natalie who is a freshman at Inspire this year. Kam is a Dean at Butte College and has served in this role for the past 10 years. For 12’years prior to becoming an administrator Kam was a faculty member and taught in the area of family and consumer studies at Butte. Kam Holds a Bachelors degree in child development from Chico State and a Masters degree in education administration from SFSU. She enjoys spending time traveling with her husband and two daughters. She and her daughters are members of the National Charity League and appreciate the  time they spend serving the community together through this organization.

Zack is a retired high school English and math teacher of 35 years, 33 at Chico High School.  While at Chico High, he served as English Department Chair, Literacy Coordinator, and Mentor Teacher.  Currently he works part time at Chico State as a supervisor for student teachers.  Also, he volunteers as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for foster children.  Zack and his wife Laurie have three children and two grandchildren.

 

Catherine SullivanTop of Page

Portrait of Catherine SullivanCatherine Sullivan, has a trained in classical ballet and modern dance in both academic and professional settings.  She has also been and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Dance at CSU, Chico.  As a founding member of the Chico Community Ballet, and currently the Associate Director and Director of the Senior Adult division, she also helped establish the Friends of Chico Community Ballet, Inc., a 501©3 educational corporation. She regularly contributes classical re-stagings and original choreography for the annual full-length ballets and the community concerts Keeping Dance Alive!

She has a B.A. in Art in Art History and another with emphasis in Sculpture/Printmaking, cum laude.    Her Special Major M.A. in Dance/Art from CSU, Chico was awarded with distinction.

Ms. Sullivan has received five City of Chico “Annie” Awards in both the visual and performing arts and a Mayor’s Award for art achievement in both the visual arts and dance.  She conceived and directed the original ballet productions of The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland and Alice Returns to Wonderland for CCB, as well as Encore Theatres’ production of Amahl and the Night Visitor and Chico Light Opera’s Godspell

Since 1993 she has been the Curator and Head of Archive for the Janet Turner Print Museum, a program of the CSU, Chico College of Humanities and Fine Arts located in the recently completed Arts & Humanities building. In this position she programs and/or curates five public exhibitions, supervises the direct care of the collection, advises on new prints to add, trains professional museum interns and facilitates an Archive study program for classes, groups and individuals to use the collection not currently on display.

She is currently on the Inspire School of the Arts and Science’s Board of Directors.

Evan TuchinskyTop of Page

Evan, the board’s Business/Community Representative, is the uncle of an Inspire student (Class of 2018). He’s a Stanford University alum who’s worked 30 years in journalism, including as Editor of the Chico News & Review. He is a communications management consultant with his firm, Idea Cultivators, and business manager for Dr. Amy Dolinar Tuchinsky, a pediatrician in Chico. Evan serves on the City of Chico’s Planning Commission and as the alternate on the Architectural Review and Historic Preservation Board. He’s an active member of the Chico Noon Rotary Club. Previously he served on the Paradise Unified School District Superintendent’s Advisory Board and as Chair/CEO of the Civic Pioneers Institute (originally called the Butte Pioneers), a nonprofit foundation operating a regional leadership development program. Evan and Amy are parents to exchange students they host, and to their canine kids.
