Jarrah is a Chico native who is very excited to be developing the dance and theater programs for Inspire School of Arts & Sciences. She teaches most of the dance  and technical theatre classes at Inspire and has directed The Wizard of Oz and Chicago: A Musical Vaudeville since joining the staff. She also choreographed A Midsummer Nights Dream & Brigadoon, works as the Production Director for Inspire and coordinates the ISPE Program. She is currently an Assistant Director of Chico Community Ballet, directing the Pre-Company and Jr. II Divisions and works closely with the ballet throughout the year on numerous projects including stage managing The Nutcracker, Keeping Dance Alive!, and coming up this December Cinderella. Jarrah was the Assistant Director of Full Force Dance Company for two years after stepping down as the Company’s Artistic Director from 2005-2008. She coordinated the Bidwell Jr. High after school dance program for five years and taught Introduction to University Life at CSU, Chico for three years. Currently, she loves to spend time with her little girl, Ashlynn, who turns five in August and enjoys teaching ballet at Chico Creek Dance Centre along with all styles of dance at Inspire. Jarrah also coordinates the CI Dance Team, a grant funded after-school collaborative dance program for Inspire and Chico High students. Jarrah has a B.S. in Business Administration and a B.A. Musical Theatre from CSU, Chico and did her Masters and teaching credential work at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education in Dance Education and Administration. In her free time she loves to choreograph and design makeup, costumes, lights, and sets for theater. Jarrah loves her hometown and is happy to be sharing her passion for learning and the arts with students of all ages. “Life is short so... DANCE!” 

Sarah Shoemaker

Sarah is thrilled and honored to join the dance faculty at Inspire School of Arts & Sciences. Originally from Napa, Sarah lived in Southern California for eleven years before moving to the Chico area in December 2013. Sarah has 10+ years of dance teaching and choreography experience with virtually all ages and ability levels. She spent nearly eight years as the director of the dance program at Maranatha High School in Pasadena, where she also founded and coached the Maranatha Dance Team, taught theatre classes, and directed and choreographed numerous musical theatre productions in the historic Ambassador Auditorium. Sarah has choreographed for various other schools and theater companies, including Marmac Repertory, Theatre 360, and Azusa Pacific University. In addition to teaching at Inspire, Sarah is a choreographer for California Regional Theatre, and a director and choreographer for CRT’s educational division, CRT Kids. Favorite choreography credits include Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, Little Shop Of Horrors, Disney’s Beauty And The Beast, A Year With Frog And Toad, and Oklahoma. Directing credits include Into The Woods and The Sound Of Music. Sarah holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Azusa Pacific University. She lives in Orland/Capay with her husband and two young sons, Rowan and Ezekiel.

Deborah Jorritsma

Dance Conditioning
Deborah Jorritsma, Artistic Director of Chico Community Ballet and Chico Creek Dance Centre, has a more than 30-year dance background, global in scope with a focus on Classical Ballet. She has been teaching dance conditioning at Inspire School of Arts and Sciences since 2012 and loves creating a fun environment while motivating all levels of dancers to explore their mental and physical potential. 
Ms. Jorritsma trained from a young age with the Fort Wayne Ballet, went to the University of Oklahoma, then danced professionally with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, where she worked with noted choreographers Ruth Page and Leonard Massine. In 1984, Ms. Jorritsma became involved with Chico Community Ballet as the Artistic Director and has staged numerous full-length ballets such as Cinderella, The Sleeping Beauty, La Fille Mal Gardee, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Coppelia, Peter and the Wolf and The Nutcracker. Ms. Jorritsma is also the Artistic Director and a teacher of Chico Creek Dance Centre, the training school for the Chico Community Ballet. 

 Ms. Jorritsma has received the lifetime achievement Annie’s Award and has been repeatedly honored for her accomplishments by our arts community.
