Scott Gunderson

Email Mr. Gunderson
Scott has been teaching math and science for nineteen years, ten in Chico schools. After getting his teaching credential from San Diego State University in physical sciences, mathematics, and computers, Scott and his wonderful and talented wife, Denise, arrived in Chico in 1991 without jobs, apartment, or contacts and $100 in the bank. They have never regretted the move. Their son, Tristan, is eagerly looking forward to being a sophomore at Inspire next year and having his dad as his teacher. Besides a diverse love of learning that allows him to play a mean game of Trivia, Scott is passionate about music. He plays bass in two local groups you have never heard nor seen and wishes he could call himself a singer. He sang barbershop for seven years and even appeared in a couple local musical productions. Scott and his family love to travel and spend a lot of vacation time at music festivals. Desperately believing that education is the key to a hopeful future for this crazy world, Scott has developed and researched a lot of ideas about quality education that he looks forward to sharing with Inspire's students.

Malina Olson

Malina was born and raised in Durham, a little farming town outside of Chico. If you ever make it out there be sure not to blink or you may miss it! Malina got her degree in biological Sciences with an emphasis in microbiology and biotechnology at UC Davis. She gained hands on laboratory experience interning at Novazymes biotech in Davis, and RH Phillips winery in Esparto. She knew her true passion was in teaching science, so she returned to Chico to get her teaching credential at Chico State. After receiving her credential  she taught at various schools in Butte and Glenn county,  and even taught one semester in Dublin Ireland. During that time she  earned credentials in Chemistry and Geosciences.   In addition to teaching she is also dedicated to raising her two young girls, Avery and Sidney.  Malina has found a wonderful home at Inspire, and is looking forward to her fifth year!

Justin Peek

Justin graduated from Chico State University with a degree in Biological Sciences. While pursuing his degree, Justin participated in a hands-on learning lab which revealed to him his passion for teaching science. After several years of travel and volunteer work, Justin began his teaching career at Oroville High School. Last year he married his wife Martina and adopted their first baby boy…a 3.5 lb. chihuahua. Justin enjoys traveling, camping, rock climbing, soccer, surfing and playing music. He is eager to work with such an incredible staff and share his interest in science with the students at Inspire.
