Sarah Shoemaker
About
Sarah Shoemaker has been teaching and choreographing dance for all ages for over 15 years. She joined the Inspire staff in 2014 and has taught Dance 1, Dance 2, Dance 3, Dance 4, and Dance Styles. She is the staff advisor for Tap Ensemble and choreographs for the performing arts department musical productions. Sarah contributes to the Chico dance and theater community as a choreographer for California Regional Theater (CRT), and has worked with CRT Kids and Chico Theater Company as well. Prior to coming to Inspire, Sarah founded and directed the dance program and dance team at Maranatha High School in Pasadena, CA. While at Maranatha she directed and choreographed numerous musical productions in the historic Ambassador Auditorium and for educational and regional theater companies throughout the San Gabriel Valley. Sarah has a California Teaching Credential in Physical Education and Theater/Drama, and a CTE Credential in Arts, Media, and Entertainment. She holds a M.Ed. specializing in best practices for secondary education, and a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Azusa Pacific University where she was named Outstanding Senior in the Department of Theater Film, and Television. Her senior projects included choreographing a touring production of Godspell. Sarah began her dance training at the age of 8 in her home town of Napa, CA, studying tap, jazz, ballet/pointe, and lyrical dance. She danced competitively for two years before shifting her focus to musical theater, performing in dramatic and musical productions as well as studying dance, acting, voice, and choir in high school. While in high school, she also discovered choreographing, and won talent scholarships in the Napa Valley’s Junior Miss and Miss Napa County pageants for performing tap dance solos that she choreographed herself. While attending APU, she continued her dance training in ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance at Citrus College and Mt. San Antonio College.
