About

Erin Whitney is the parent of a 9th grader at Inspire. She is also a faculty member in the School of Education at Chico State, where she coordinates and teaches in the Concurrent Pathway Program which prepares candidates to obtain their general and special education teaching credentials. Prior to moving to Chico, she taught K-12 special education and literacy for 18 years in New York, Philadelphia, and Hawaii. Her research and teaching focuses on inclusive literacy practices for students with disabilities, culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogies, and support for LGBTQ+ students in K-12 schools and universities. She moved to Chico in 2016 with her partner, Scott, and her daughter, Maya, and since then has adopted a dog and two cats. She enjoys hiking in Bidwell Park, practicing yoga, eating dessert, and listening to audiobooks. She served on the board at Blue Oak for one year as a parent member.
